THOU ART THE POTTER;
WE ARE THE CLAY.
Dawn reflections….
3/24/10
With all the demands of the world around us, it’s often difficult to focus on our Lenten journey. While Lent is designed as an intention time of self-examination and focusing on our relationship with God, our every day life can be a distraction. The journey through Lent takes us to the death of Jesus on a cross hopefully to the death of the ways our relationship with God is broken. My prayer is that you have been able to find time during these past several weeks to sit in prayer with God, reflect on your commitment to following Jesus Christ, read your Lenten devotionals, and refresh your relationship with God.
As I write this article, we are closely approaching Holy Week with all the preparations for worship offerings: our Maundy Thursday service of Light, Communion and Shadows; the Community Good Friday service; our Prayer Vigil; the Community Easter Sunrise service and our regular Easter Service celebrations. We can faithfully celebrate the Resurrection only when we’ve travelled the road to the cross with Jesus. My prayer is that you will join in the Holy Week preparations so that the Resurrection celebrations will be more meaningful for your journey with, and commitment to, Jesus Christ.
We’re celebrating the beginning of life in the birth of Jesse Ray Barnhill and celebrating the life of Art Wood who enters new life, both as we draw close to Holy Week and celebrate the gift of eternal life through the life, death, and resurrection of the One who came to save us. Easter isn’t just one day of celebration; it begins a lifetime of celebrating, with resurrection hope, the promises of God. Look for the many opportunities throughout the Eastertide to continue recommitting yourself to following Jesus and refreshing your relationship with God. Then we can truly rejoice together and shout for the world to hear, “Alleluia! Jesus Christ is Risen!”
With hope-filled gratitude,
Dawn

DISCIPLES WOMEN’S NEWS
NOW is the time for the Women of the Southwest Region to unite. God is doing GREAT things in us and through us. Will you join us? We are asking each woman in the Southwest Region to give $1.00 a month or $12.00 a year to raise funds to be able to hire a full time women’s staff person for our region. Imagine what we can do! The possibilities are endless! The sky is the limit! Please respond now. Adonna Bowman challenged us to make hope a verb, and that is exactly what we are trying to do. Now it’s up to you! Will you take the challenge? Let’s see how much money we can raise so that we as Women of Faith can do ministry the way God is calling us to do!
Imagine if 2000 women gave $12.00 that would be $24,000; … 5000 women giving $12.00 = $60,000!!! Now, imagine if every woman in the Southwest Region sent in $12! Together we can do great things! Send your donations to:

Be sure to mark your check: “Women’s Ministry Support” - You can mail your checks in individually, or give to Marilyn for a group mailing.
“The Lord God is in your midst, the mighty One will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.”

DISCIPLES MEN NEWS
Springtime, what a great time of the year to be involved in God’s work at First Christian Church Burnet. The Men are busy and are going to get even more so as we move forward this spring. Saturday the 20th of March we had our regular fellowship breakfast and work day. Not the best weather to be outside but we faced the strong cold wind and scattered showers to cut some trees, pull weeds, wash windows, and hang signs. Greg Williams came down during the week to clean the gutters on the roof to prevent a possible leak when the rain came. We will be cooking breakfast for the Easter Egg Hunt and will assist wherever needed during the event. Next week we will work on the float for the Bluebonnet Festival Parade and help at the booth.
Upcoming activities include the work day at the camp in Gonzales on May 15th and the Mission trip to Hawkins on the 24th through the 29th of May. All the men that are interested in these two activities can see me, Chuck Orr, or Ron Petrick for details.
I look forward to working with the men of First Christian Church Burnet on these projects and thank all of them for what they are and what they do.

FROM THE ELDERS
Elders tell the people what God has said. To do so, they spend time studying the Scriptures. You will see most of our Elders in Sunday school classes, different Bible studies and activities that the church offers, as well as, teachers. By doing this they become good bridge builders; that is, help in their thinking from AD 60 or 70 to the present. Although an elder may not be a public speaker, he or she learns ways to bring God’s truth to others. Elders will be beginning a study of the book “Serving from the Heart” beginning on April 28, 2010 where we will study the scriptures and how we may use our gifts to be good bridge builders.

Poems by George Smith
Preachers & Shepherds
Preachers are folks who have devoted their lives to preaching the gospel, leading the church on its journey to Christ, and watching over the flock as this is their vocation.
Shepherds are folks who have devoted their lives to preaching the gospel, leading the church on its journey to Christ, and watching over their flocks because they care.
We are blessed in having two shepherds in Dawn and Ernie.
Hand Me Downs
I grew up during the depression
When times were tough to bear
And I remember hand me downs
Were all I ever had to wear.
Now I know that some of you
Had to wear them just like me.
To school, church, and town
For all the world to see.
And perhaps it didn’t bother you
Near as much as it did others
Who had to wear hand me downs
Worn out by older brothers.
But for me it was different
And I will tell you mister
I really hated hand me downs –
All I had was a big sister!
