THOU ART THE POTTER;
WE ARE THE CLAY.

June 24th was one of the saddest days of my life—it was the last Sunday our dear friend and pastor, George Perrine, preached before his retirement from active ministry. I have officiated at numerous funerals, even at the funeral of my mom, and was always able to keep my composure; but I was not able to maintain control of my emotions as we said “So Long” to George. As I spoke to others of the congregation, I found I was not alone. There were very few dry eyes on that day.
George and I worked very closely on many fronts. I will miss him and Jane, but that door has closed and I look forward as the new doors open.
Leslie and I have “stepped up to the plate,” as Ron says, and with your help we will continue to bring God’s word to you until we hire another senior minister. In the meantime, we ask each of you to keep the search committee in your daily prayers. As I told John Callison, I am willing to do whatever has to be done.
I am thrilled that the board, on Wednesday, July 25th, voted to recommend Dawn Rosignol as our new senior minister. A heartfelt thanks to Bennie and his committee for their research in finding this person. May God bless us as we open a new door in the worship of the Lord.

The Rev. Dawn Rosignol is the candidate for minister presented to the board by the search committee on Wednesday, July 25! The Board voted unanimous approval of the committee’s recommendation and Dawn has been invited to meet the congregation on Sunday, August 5. The schedule is set to include the following:
9:30 – Meet and visit with Dawn during the Sunday School Hour
10:45 – Dawn will preach during the worship service
11:45 – Fellowship dinner time with more visiting and getting to know Dawn and her husband, Ron.
After a week of prayerful consideration, the congregation will vote on whether to call Dawn to be our minister. The meeting will follow the August 12 worship service.
SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED
The agreement creating the First Christian Church of Burnet Education Fund was signed on January 30, 1987, with monies given by Carl and Miriam Wilson. The stipulation was made that only the interest can be used. From this fund thirty-two scholarship checks have been presented to thirteen of our college bound students. The information in our records shows that at least $27,255.00 has been awarded. Contributions to the scholarship fund may be made at any time by designation. Fall 2007 recipients are Had Darling, Zac Darling, and Chaz Allison.

SPECIAL OPPORTUNITIES
The Honored Minister Pin which was presented to George upon his retirement was provided by the Pension Fund of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and presented in their behalf and that of our congregation. The Pension Fund invites any who wish to make a gift to the fund in honor of George to send a check directly to the Pension Fund. Special envelopes have been placed in the Gathering Area and are printed with a form that explains how such a gift can be designated. A gift to the fund would be a wonderful tribute to George.
Another opportunity for a special gift….. Our church is receiving gifts to help those of our community who have been hurt by the recent flooding. Insurance companies do not help unless one has Flood Insurance, and damage has been experienced by homeowners who never dreamed their houses would be subject to flood water. Designate your check “flood relief” and it will be directed to assist those known by our church members to be affected by loss. We are grateful for the immediate response of Week of Compassion and the Bluebonnet Area Benevolent Fund. MORE IS NEEDED!

Thank you, Rescue Mission Choir!
We all enjoyed the presentation of the Shreveport/Bossier Rescue Mission Choir. If you didn’t get to hear the group, you missed a treat! If you’d like to view a DVD of the concert, tell Peggy Curtis. One is in the works.
Today! (July 29) Service at Oaks Nursing Home at 4:00. Leslie Green will lead. Pancakes at our church afterward. Join us for fun and fellowship!
Tomorrow! (July 30) at 2:00pm Burnet Fellowship of Church Women will meet at the Burnet Presbyterian Church.
Our summer singers have been wonderful! I know you’ve expressed your appreciation to those who continue to bring special music during our choir’s summer vacation. Thank you, thank you, all!
CHOIR PRACTICE WILL RESUME ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 21ST AT 4:30. THIS IS YOUR “ENGRAVED INVITATION” TO COME SING!!
