Dawn reflections….                                                                           11/26/07

It has been a glorious month serving our Lord together with you. Nominations for our 2008 leadership team were presented and approved by the board. We welcomed our newest member into the congregation. Welcome back, Tommy! We worshiped, we fellowshipped and we covenanted together. November has flown by and Advent is upon us. I keep thinking back to the installation service on the 11th when we formally covenanted to join together in ministry. My prayer is that you have been as blessed as I by our new covenant relationship.

In the installation service, Rev. Callison commented on my selection of texts as being “interesting choices.” I agree. For me, Isaiah 61:1-6, John 14:15-21, and 2Corinthians 3:4-6 emphasize the work that God does through us. In Luke 4, we find Jesus reading from the Isaiah scroll: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me . . . to bring good news to the poor . . . to let the oppressed go free.” In John 14, we find Jesus promising an Advocate, the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth, to be with us forever. In 2Corinthians 3, we find that our ability to even be in ministry together comes from God. Our competence comes from God. Being in partnership with God and with each other for ministry is a gift from God, guided by the gift of God’s Spirit that is upon every one of us when we share the good news of Jesus Christ with the world.

Do you believe that the Spirit of the Lord is upon us? As the Body of Christ, we are called to continue the ministry that Jesus began. The Spirit of truth compels us to share the good news of Jesus Christ with others. Advent is here. Preparations are under way. Will you commit this Advent season to preparing the way of the Lord through witness, worship, fellowship, study, devotion and prayer?

Committed to the journey with you,

Dawn
