THOU ART THE POTTER;
WE ARE THE CLAY.
Dawn reflections….
5/25/10
I don’t know about you but I was especially energized by our Pentecost worship. From hearing Greg’s testimony as he was compelled by the Spirit to come forward and share what God had put on his heart to hearing once more the Pentecost story from Acts as Art read it for us to singing hymns of grateful praise for the presence of God’s Spirit in the church to hearing about the visioning process that’s underway to sharing Communion together as Christ’s church. It’s about being present to God, listening for a word from God, knowing that we’re empowered by God’s Spirit, and then being willing to live it.
As I reflect on Pentecost and think about God’s gift of presence with us through the Holy Spirit, I’m reminded of the meanings of the Hebrew word ruach, which translates “spirit”. Ruach is found in Genesis to describe both the wind that blew across the waters in creation and for God breathing life into the first human beings. In Greek, the word is pneuma and in John 3:8 Jesus said, “The wind blows where it chooses, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
Sometimes the wind blows as a calm breeze that cools us in the heat of the day. Other times, the wind is forceful enough to push us or even knock us down. It’s hard to stand still in a powerful wind. So it is with God. Sometimes, God’s Spirit is a calming presence to settle our anxieties and fears. At other times, God’s Spirit is a compelling presence that moves us from our complacency, comfortableness, stubbornness, and even unwillingness.
As I write this article, I’m sitting on my patio with the wind gently blowing across my face and it feels so good. But then there’s the occasional gust that really gets my attention and so I pray that God’s Spirit will blow through our lives and through the life of FCC Burnet in ways that gets our attention and compels us to capture God’s vision and run with it! To be willing to go wherever the Spirit blows. God’s Holy Spirit – energizing, compelling, empowering – wants our attention. What does God want? Where is God taking us? Come on! Get on board, get fastened in and get ready to go. Let’s ride the wind of God’s Spirit together and find out where God is calling us to.
Excited and praying together with you,
Dawn

A WORD FROM THE MODERATOR…
Time is flying by and so much to do! Please keep all the ministries of the church in mind and become involved, whether it’s your presence at these ministries or with your financial support. Peoples lives are being blessed as we reach out.
At the Board Meeting May 12, the Board approved more vacation time for Rev. Dawn (as promised after her first year here---she’s now been here nearly 3!). We celebrated Ernie’s retirement by presenting him a “blessing book” with our thank you’s and memories. We discussed the vision team getting back in the swing of things, the successful Spaghetti Luncheon, and our prayerful consideration of our financial contributions to the church. The next Board Meeting will be Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at 7:00 P.M. Make a commitment to attend!
Stop by the church and meet Nancy Henderson, who has taken Debbie’s place in the office! Welcome, Nancy, and thank you!
REMEMBER….PRAY, PRAY, PRAY!
Lisa Nance
The church choir will sing June 6, and then take a break for the summer. We always welcome new members, and will resume practice August 10th. If anyone has special music to offer during the summer, please let Judy Ritchie or Pastor Dawn know.

DISCIPLES MEN NEWS
We just went from not doing much to a very busy schedule. Some of us were in Gonzales May 14th and 15th, and we are now in Hawkins on our Mission trip working at Jarvis Christian College, May 24 – 29. We have a lot of work to do on some of the dwellings on campus. Saturday, May 22, we had our Men’s Fellowship Breakfast and had 16 in attendance, 4 of which were guests. We will not be having our breakfast gathering during the summer, but will resume in September. Summertime will be a good time for us to work on the rent house and finish the project we started in the spring.
Thanks to the men of our congregation that donate their time and talents to the service of God.

VISION TEAM REPORT
The Vision Team consisting of Michele Darling, Jim Nance, Jerry Hostetter, Laura Orr, Bennie Clark, Lisa Nance, Ernie Spiekermann and Pastor Dawn met on Monday, May 17, 2010, at 5:30 P.M.
We had a productive two hour meeting! We will be gathering relevant information regarding our neighborhoods, our community, our congregational needs, our spiritual gifts, and our financial statistics in the next few weeks. A survey will be mailed to all members and adult regular visitors in early June, and we ask for your careful thought and prayer in getting those filled out and returned to the church within a couple of weeks from your receipt.
Future meetings have been scheduled for the Vision Team. Look for your Care Groups to get together for questions and discussions about the visioning progress.
Our hope and prayer is to be able to present a vision statement and plan to the congregation in the Fall. HOWEVER...this is our schedule, not necessarily God’s schedule, so circumstances and dates may change so we’ll be flexible!
Pray for our church, pray for the vision team, and continue to pray for each other!

I would like to thank each of you for the opportunity you have given me to serve as your church secretary over the past nine months. My husband and I will be moving to Kaiserslautern, Germany at the end of August, and I will be spending the next few months preparing for the move. Seeing you share God’s love through your ministry to one another and to the community has blessed me greatly, and I will keep you all in my prayers. Most of all I would like to say thank you to Pastor Dawn, who is one of the most dedicated and caring persons I have ever known.
