Dawn reflections….
                                                                                                                                     5/23/12

As a follow-up to my article in the May newsletter, I want to write more about my sabbatical leave time. It will be here very soon and I want to assure you of your continued care in my absence. Your Elders serve together as an Elder Body, providing valuable leadership to the church alongside me. I am very grateful for all that they give of themselves to this call on their lives. Not everyone is capable of serving as an Elder (remember, we all have our own individual spiritual gifts that are equally important to the whole of the ministry). I am so confident in the leadership capabilities of our 2012 Elder Body that I can leave on sabbatical with the peace and surety that all will be well in my absence. After all, as I reminded the Elders, God is in it with you!

It is only fitting that I leave on sabbatical the week following Pentecost, for Pentecost serves as our reminder that Christ didn’t leave the church to flounder in our limited capabilities. The church has been empowered with God’s Spirit, filling the church with all that we need to be church. One of the scripture passages that I’ve walked with ever since God called me into the ministry is 2Corinthians 3:4-6a: “Such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God. Not that we are competent of ourselves to claim anything as coming from us; our competence is from God, who has made us competent to be ministers of a new covenant, not of letter but of spirit.” This passage reminds me that, YES, we CAN be the church, no matter how challenging it might be! This passage also always grounds me in its reminder that we CAN’T be authentic church without the empowering presence of God.

During my sabbatical, your Elders will step up to more leadership responsibility and serve together as the Elder Body that God’s Spirit has inspired them to become. They will be available for any pastoral care needs that may arise. Should you have a pastoral care need while I am away, please don’t hesitate to contact one of the Elders in your care group so that they may attend to your needs. Know that you go with me on sabbatical, in my heart and in my prayers. I’ll miss you and I ask for your prayers, that I experience the rest and renewal that I need, both physically and spiritually. Thank you, Church, for allowing me this opportunity to step away from the ministry for a short while. I look forward to hearing, upon my return, about all that God has done in and through you in my absence. Go Church! Be filled with God’s Spirit! Happy Pentecost!

With gratitude,
Dawn

Building Relationships; Growing Faith; Welcoming All in Jesus Christ

     Of priorities and prayer….

Our pastor has made preparation for her sabbatical. We, too, have been preparing. I would ask that during this time, we ALL commit to making church a priority in our lives. We need to be present; showing up is a big part of supporting the church! Be aware of pastoral needs and pass information along to elders. Worship will be different under the leadership of elders, and we’ll have sermons from outstanding guest preachers. The sermon series will be one you won’t soon forget. Your support and participation is very, very important.

While Dawn is away, let us engage in prayer for her. Pray that her time will be all that she needs it to be. Pray that she will return to us, rested and eagerly looking forward to continuing to serve God’s will for her life. Pray, too, for our church and for each other; we also need to constantly seek renewal and direction as we serve.

Take a deep breath! Step up! We are bound together in love, and I thank God for our church and for you all.
                                              Judy

FAITH SHARING

It has been exciting to see quite a few visitors over the last several months. I have observed the visitors being greeted and welcomed warmly by our congregation. Thanks to all for extending Christian love and hospitality to those who come through our church doors to worship with us as well as to those we encounter when we take “church” out of the building.
Blessed to serve with each of you,
                Michele Darling

The next Disciples Women meeting will be Saturday, June 9 at Tealicious (Dutch treat) at 11:00 a.m. Special guests will be new Burnet CISD Superintendent, Keith McBurnett and his wife, Pat. Keith will speak briefly about his philosophy for successful schools which includes servant leadership and I am certain that he will be willing to answer questions regarding school funding, state legislature and how it all effects children in our local schools. We will follow his presentation with a brief business meeting.

Keith, Pat and their two sons will be moving to Burnet from Round Rock. I thought we could put together a welcome gift bag for them including an FCC coffee mug. Please feel free to bring an item to add to the bag. Suggestions would be something unique to the Burnet area or to “country life” such as a package of bluebonnet seeds, sweet pickles from Tea-Liscious, maybe some bbq spices, etc. Keith has already proven to be a practical jokester. . . if you run across a package of rubber insects, he would have new inventory to strategically place around the dministration offices!

Please plan to attend. I will need a count to turn into Tea-Liscious, so let me know if you can attend by Sunday, June 3. Guests are always welcome.
Thank you!
Michele Darling

I will take your Blessing Box offerings to the Regional Women's Assembly to turn in during the Blessing Box dedication. You may write your check to "Disciples Mission Fund", and write "Blessing Box" in the memo line. I will need it by Sunday, June 17.

Disciples Women’s study continues on Thursdays at 5:30 pm through June.
     Hi All,
It’s been a great month of May so far, for the men’s ministry. We kicked off the month with a good turn out for the men’s final breakfast for the summer break. Roz did a great job on the breakfast burritos and we made a good dent on eating them. Before the breakfast Ernie gave a great devotional and Dawn blessed the meal.

The next event for the men was the clean up work at the Disciples Oaks Retreat Center in Gonzales. Again we had a good turn out from the men at our church. We went down on the 18th. Arriving around 4:00 P.M., and were treated to a chili dog meal (three each) by Roz. We had all the trimmings except for the Mexican cheese topping that I left at home in the fridge. We worked till dark mowing, trimming, and the plumbing, to work that chili dog meal off. We worked the next day till about 2:30 and then returned home. Hope everyone has a great summer off doing what you like to do best. The men will be helping around the church to keep things going We all need to pray that Dawn and Ron will return to us safely after her Sabbatical and their time off together.

EDUCATION NEWS

This summer a lot of fun things are planned for the children in our church and community. Operation Overboard will begin Monday July 16 through Friday July 20, 2012. There will be a meal every night beginning at 5:30 p.m. and continue through the evening till 8:00p.m. Our night for meal and snacks will be Wednesday night. We will be serving Sloppy Joes and trail mix that night. I need volunteers to help serve and clean up afterwards. Look for a list of items needed on the table in the foyer. Please consider how you can help make this a truly spiritual week for the children involved.

A truly wise person will see tomorrow in every child’s eyes.

Coming up in August is our fourth annual Worship Arts Camp, August 6 through August 10th. The night will begin with a meal, and then the children will explore worship through music, drama and art. Sunday morning, the children will put what they have learned into experience filled worship service. Come join us for a week full of fun and laughter. Please let me know if you can help. We need help serving the meal and help for the teachers leading the classes.

People who inspire realize there will always be rocks in the road ahead of us. They will either be stumbling blocks or stepping stones; it all depends on how we use them.
Thank you,
Brenda

Dear Dawn,
I wanted to thank you again for all of your support and prayers for my mom and my family. She thought the world of you and your members. Mom’s service was perfect and meant so much to me personally.
I’ve enclosed a donation for the church which has blessed all of our lives.

I want to thank the Church so very much for hosting the Graduation Reception/Celebration on Sunday to honor Brandon and me. The party and all the cards and gifts were so thoughtful and greatly appreciated. Sharon Tippie's cakes were awesome and delicious; and the Bible that Dawn presented us was very special. Thank you for making this day so wonderful and memorable!

Choir Notes…
Summer is almost here and your choir will take a break for the summer. But we'll be singing right beside you each Sunday, so be sure and make your requests for congregational songs or solos for specials.
What a time I've had leading the choir this year. We've practiced hard and stretched our abilities to keep the music and the message fresh and meaningful, and it's been a joy to serve. Whether from old favorites that soothed to new songs that rocked, we hope you have been blessed. All of which reminds me of a song. . . "Little is much when God is in it.” Amen.
