Dawn reflections….
2/25/08
As I sit down to write to you this afternoon, I have just finished an hour of quiet prayer and meditation in our sanctuary. Yes, every Monday during Lent the sanctuary is open for prayer and I am available to pray with you during the noon hour. The Communion Table is set up with candles, slips of paper on which to write prayer requests, a Bible, and the Lenten devotional booklet. The sanctuary is quiet and offers a wonderful place to be in prayer and personal reflection with our God.
Today, I walked around the sanctuary and prayed for each of you, for God’s guidance with all our leadership team and for God’s vision. What is God calling us to be and do in 2008 and beyond? As I settled in, I focused on the light that shone through the stained glass cross above the baptistery. The sun is on that side of the building by early afternoon and so I was drawn to how the red of the cross was so bright. It reminded me of the blood that was shed on a cross so that we can know life with God and be here today doing the ministry that Jesus began before shedding that blood.
We’re about halfway through our first Lenten journey together. As we look to the cross of Good Friday, my prayer is that we all are more aware of Jesus’ companionship this year. Just as Jesus accompanied his first disciples in ministry, he accompanies us in ministry today. Part of the intentional self-reflection that is characteristic of the Lenten season is the consideration of how committed we are to doing the ministry that Jesus left for us to do. How is your dance with Jesus going?
I am so blessed to be among Disciples who understand the nature of our calls to ministry. Your steady giving to LACare; your reaching out to those in crisis at the Advocacy Center; your support and encouragement of our youth; your loving care for one another – all these things and many more show me that you truly are the hands and feet of Jesus, the Body of Christ, ministering to today’s world. We are dancing with Jesus together.
I invite you to join me in praying for our congregation, for the community that we serve, for one another, for yourself, and for God’s vision as we move forward in ministry together – worshiping, fellowshipping, serving, studying and praying. May we all dance with Jesus like never before!
In the dance with you,
Dawn

THANK YOU
The youth want to thank the congregation for their participation and support of the Hill Country Advocacy Center’s Wish List. We collected 63 separate items – many of those in bulk amounts. If we compute that into individual items, we will help hundreds of children who need the Center’s services. Thanks, again, for your awesome generosity!
Be ready for Daylight Savings time on March 9. Set your clock Saturday night, and be on time for church.

A FEW LINES FROM THE MODERATOR…
Thanks to all of you for your turn out at board meetings. Remember, you are all welcome, and there is always room for more.
Thanks to all of the youth and their leaders for their fine fund-raising efforts. Also, they have made great contributions to our worship service. They make a difference in our church.
I am proud to say we had our first Ash Wednesday service. For those of you who came, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. Next year I strongly encourage all of you to attend.
Special note: take care of yourself, and watch out for the flu bug.
Yours in Christ
