As I write this article, it has been a month since we joined together in ministry. And what a month it has been! We celebrated World Communion Sunday. Many thanks to all who helped to bring the world into our sanctuary. It helped to remind us that we are but one community among many within God’s creation. We received a Reconciliation Offering. Thank you for your generosity and your commitment to justice-seeking for all of God’s people. And we welcomed our newest member into God’s faith community at FCC Burnet. Welcome Louis!

Leslie Green and I attended a wonderful seminar in Dallas last week. We were blessed by a day with Gay Reese, author of Unbinding the Gospel: Real Life Evangelism. Yes, evangelism . . . the dreaded ‘E’ word. When we get to the heart of evangelism, what do we have? Faith-sharing. And when we approach evangelism as faith-sharing, we are at the heart of the gospel! Sharing the good news of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. In John 12:45, we find these words of Jesus: “I have come as light into the world, so that everyone who believes in me should not remain in the darkness.” Have you shared that light of Christ with someone lately? Have you prayed for God to enlighten you as to who needs to hear about your faith?

Hope to see you at the Fall Festival. We’re certainly experiencing fall weather this final week of October. The strong wind reminds me of the power of God’s Spirit to move us into a faith-sharing future that celebrates the difference that Jesus Christ has made in our lives. Do you feel the Spirit blowing around you and through you? You can share it, with God’s help!

Louis Metzler transferred membership to our congregation on October 21st. He lives at 1004 Lewis in Burnet. Phone number is 512/756-2794.Louis has been participating in our church for a number of months and we welcome him!

FALL FESTIVAL TODAY!

The fun begins Sunday, Oct. 28 at 5:30 with a Trunk or Treat open to the public. Come with trunks (or backs of SUV's) decorated and candy to distribute. Come in costume; we will have a costume contest for all ages. At 7:00 we'll have more fun, food and games. Pumpkin carving contest, costume contest, bobbing for apples, chili dogs and the fixins. COME AND BRING FRIENDS!

WOMEN’S NEWS

The Annual Buttons and Bows Bazaar will be held at FCC, Kerrville on November 9th (9 am – 6 pm) and 10th (9 am – 3 pm). The church is located at 1900 Goat Creek Parkway (phone # 830/895-5355.)This is an opportunity for a fun day out, shopping for Christmas gifts and offering support to our sister church. Let’s go!


CHRISTIAN MEN'S FELLOWSHIP

CMF will meet for breakfast on Saturday, November 17th at 8:00 am.

It’s time for new photos for our church directory. Practice up for your best smile. Photos will be taken during and after the monthly fellowship lunches on Nov 4 and Dec 2. We want everyone to be included.

The Community Thanksgiving Service is Sunday, November 18th at 7:00 pm at the Presbyterian Church. Dawn will preach. Let’s have a big representation from our congregation for this annual event.

INSTALLATION

The formal installation of The Rev. Dawn Rosignol will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, November 11. The Rev. Dr. John Callison will participate in the service, which will be followed by refreshments. We hope that friends from other congregations in Burnet and other Disciples churches in our area will attend. The search committee is to plan the service, along with the worship committee and Dr. Callison. This is an important event for us and is an opportunity for us to welcome others to our church to meet Dawn.

ADVENT
Advent begins on Sunday, December 2. Do you wonder what’s it all about? And why? Dawn plans to lead an Advent study, probably on Sunday or Monday evenings. Watch for more definite information on dates and time. And come expecting to prepare yourself for a truly meaningful Christmas.

Dawn and Peggy S. need to know your up-to-the-minute contact information: Address, phone number, cell number, email address. Please inform them (preferably in writing or via email to the church office) if you have made changes. It would even be helpful for you to confirm for accuracy if your information has not changed recently! Take a moment to help so our records can be up to date. Thank you!

PRAYER CONCERNS
We want to pray for the extended families and friends of our congregation. The list is printed each Sunday on the worship bulletin. Names on the list will be included for two weeks, and Dawn has asked that she be informed of any need to keep them on the list for an extended period of time so that our prayers can be meaningful. Otherwise, we’ll celebrate their progress and/or recovery.

Reminder: Burnet Fellowship of Church Women meets tomorrow (Oct 29th) at First Baptist Church at 2:00 pm.



The Thanksgiving Special Offering benefits 14 colleges and universities and seven theological institutions that receive funding from the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). These institutions have pledged to serve and care for Disciples students and the church and to work in cooperation to produce leaders for the church.

The offering will be received November 11 and 18.



Set your clocks back before you go to bed Saturday, Nov 3rd— enjoy a little “extra” time on Sunday morning and GET TO CHURCH ON TIME!
