Opportunities to Serve:

We believe that, as Christians, we are called to serve as Jesus served. “Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” (1Corinthians 12:4-7, NRSV) At First Christian (Disciples of Christ) in Burnet, there are many opportunities to serve God   by serving others through the ministries of Christ’s church. We invite everyone to discover their spiritual gifts and to explore ways of serving with them.

Outreach is an important part of our congregational life. Our congregation lives its Christian beliefs in the local community and beyond. Service activities involve the Youth, the Disciples Women’s Ministry, the Disciples Men’s Ministry, the church as a whole, and the activities of individual members.

Locally, our ministries include:

Country Oaks Assisted Living worship services

LACare, community food pantry  LaCare Newsletter

Angel Tree and other support for foster children in the Child Welfare system

Children’s Advocacy Center

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA)

Family Crisis Center

and many other local groups

Regionally, we are involved with:

Southwest Good Samaritan Ministries in Los Fresnos

Inman Christian Center in San Antonio

Regional Men’s Missions

We support a variety of ministries through our Disciples Mission Fund, through Week of Compassion offerings that provide assistance in crises around the world, and through Church World Service (CWS) by sending food, clothing, blankets and other necessities to areas in crises.

We believe that education is very important and therefore contribute to Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) institutions of higher learning and seminaries. We also have an educational fund which provides scholarships to students needing assistance.
